Godzilla Melee Remastered Kaiju Roster
Twelve titans, one currency shop, no more SKU-exclusive fighters.
The remaster’s fighting game identity is the 12-kaiju roster. Atari said twelve in June. Gamescom showed twelve in August. Wikizilla’s list, built from those reveals, is the list this wiki uses. If you came here from a 2002 FAQ, two names changed in presentation: Godzilla 90’s is Heisei Godzilla in the new UI, and Mechagodzilla 2 now wears the Showa / Terror of Mechagodzilla body instead of the Heisei vs. Mechagodzilla II suit. Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3) is in the shared roster instead of hiding on Xbox.
The short video in the middle of this hub is IGN’s gamescom clip that exists to show those twelve bodies in motion. For kits and matchups, keep reading and then open the child pages: starter kaiju, unlockable kaiju, and mecha kaiju. Rankings live on the tier list.
The twelve
| Kaiju | Role in 2002 | What to know in 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Heisei Godzilla | Starter (as Godzilla 90’s) | All-rounder, stronger ranged than 2000 |
| Godzilla 2000 | Unlock | Slightly faster G-man, still a boxer who can beam |
| Anguirus | Starter | Armor, close fights, teaches block and grab |
| Megalon | Starter | Drills, burst flight, weird but honest |
| Gigan | Unlock from Anguirus | Edged menace, fierce-centric, fast |
| King Ghidorah | Unlock from Megalon | Three-head beams, flight, size |
| Destoroyah | Unlock from Godzilla 2000 | Top-tier threat, Oxygen Destroyer Rage |
| Rodan | Unlock from Gigan | Flyer, uranium heat beam, energy tax |
| Mecha-King Ghidorah | Unlock from King Ghidorah | Heavier Ghidorah, more machine |
| Mechagodzilla (Showa body) | Deep unlock | Beam machine, edged resistance historically |
| Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3) | Xbox / JP extra | Absolute Zero fantasy, now on every SKU |
| Orga | Deep Xbox-style unlock | Shoulder cannon, oddball, completionist toy |
Heights and film lore are fun and mostly irrelevant in a melee. What matters is speed, beam identity, flight, and whether the Rage pickup turns them into a different character. How to play explains those verbs. This hub tells you who uses them loudly.
Starters versus the shop
Expect Heisei Godzilla, Anguirus, and Megalon to still be the free three. Everything else sits behind currency you can spend in any order. That is the remaster’s collector gift. It is also how a brand-new player can skip the tutorial and buy Destoroyah, then lose to a Megalon who actually blocks. Read getting started and unlocks before you empty the wallet on a name you saw in a trailer.
How to pick a main before the demo
- Want the fantasy on the box? Heisei Godzilla.
- Want to win messy 4-player games? Anguirus or Gigan.
- Want to play the trailer? King Ghidorah, knowing IGN already found the no-arms problem in a booth.
- Want the villain arc? Destoroyah, after you can manage energy.
- Want the toy no one else has muscle memory for? Orga or Megalon.
- Want lasers forever? A mech from the mecha page.
Online will inflate flyers and Ghidorahs for a week. Grounded players who learned Tokyo walls on maps will feast on them.
Names this wiki uses on purpose
- Heisei Godzilla in 2026 UI contexts, with Godzilla 90’s in parentheses when quoting 2002 FAQs.
- Godzilla 2000 for the Millennium suit.
- Mechagodzilla for the Showa-bodied slot that old western FAQs called Mechagodzilla 2 / MG2.
- Kiryu for Mechagodzilla 3.
- Destoroyah with that spelling, matching most English game menus, even when film fans prefer Destroyah.
Consistency beats pedantry when you are linking Adventure to a shop row.
What is not on the roster
SpaceGodzilla, Biollante, Mothra as a full fighter (she remains a pickup assist in the classic rules), Legendary Godzilla, Minus One, Kong, Baragon, Titanosaurus. People will request them in Steam discussions. They are not in the twelve. If DLC happens after launch, it will get an updates entry. Until then, master the twelve.
The roster hub is also your navigation: starters, unlockables, mechs. Open those next, then come back here when a name in a trailer does not match a 2002 memory. Nine times out of ten the answer is the Heisei rename or the Showa MG body swap.
