Godzilla Melee Remastered How to Unlock Kaiju, Stages, and Gallery Items

The chain is gone. Spend currency in any order — here is what that replaces.

How to Unlock Monsters

The most important sentence in Atari’s press kit is easy to miss if you only watch the trailer: you can unlock monsters, locations, and gallery items in any order. In 2002, Adventure was a graph. Beat the game with Anguirus to get Gigan. Beat it with Gigan to get Rodan. Beat it with Destoroyah, Rodan, and Mecha-King Ghidorah to get Mechagodzilla. Xbox players then had another hoop for Orga and a SKU-exclusive Kiryu. Collectors hated the graph. The remaster throws it out and puts a currency shop in its place.

This page explains both systems. You need the old chain so veteran guides on GameFAQs do not gaslight you. You need the new shop so you do not grind twelve campaigns before you touch Destoroyah. Pair it with the unlock planner when you want a checklist instead of a history lesson.

What is confirmed for 2026

  • Twelve playable kaiju, the combined original roster, including Showa-styled Mechagodzilla and Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3).
  • Eight locations with day and night. Weather conditions were mentioned in August 2026 coverage of the overhauled UI.
  • Gallery items still exist.
  • Currency can buy those things in any order.
  • Extra single-player campaigns exist per kaiju, which means Adventure is content, not a keyring.

Exact prices are not public. Do not trust a screenshot of “500 G-Energy” unless it comes from the October 15 Steam demo or a patch note. This wiki will not invent a shop table.

The 2002 chain, for context only

Starters were Godzilla 90’s (Heisei Godzilla), Anguirus, and Megalon.

Stages had their own graph. Full Tokyo, full London, full Los Angeles, Osaka variants, and so on unlocked by finishing Adventure with specific monsters. The remaster’s any-order rule applies to locations too, so you should be able to buy night Seattle without first mainlining Gigan.

What you should buy first

Currency will feel scarce on week one even if the shop is generous, because humans open menus and buy shiny things. A sane order:

  1. A second heavy — Godzilla 2000 if you main Heisei Godzilla, or Gigan if you main Anguirus. You want a different speed, not a trophy.
  2. A flyer — Rodan teaches energy tax and anti-air. You will eat flyers online.
  3. A mech — Mechagodzilla or Kiryu, so the Adventure finale stops being a surprise matchup. See mecha kaiju.
  4. A stage you actually like — Tokyo night or San Francisco if you plan to host local melee.
  5. Gallery last unless you are a stills collector. Stills do not win sets.

The versus tier list will tempt you to rush Destoroyah and King Ghidorah. If you cannot yet manage energy on Godzilla, those kits will make you worse. Buy power after you can play.

In the original, Atari logos spawned during Versus or Adventure on Normal and Hard with one human player. Touching them added film and game art to the gallery. That loop is flavor. The remaster still markets gallery unlocks. Expect a mix of in-world pickups and shop purchases. If the demo only uses the shop, this section will shrink. If pickups return, they remain a reason to play Adventure on something other than Easy.

Stages and weather

Buying a location probably unlocks both day and night, because Atari lists eight locations with day/night variations rather than sixteen separate products. Weather is a remaster extra. We do not yet know whether weather is a shop row, a toggle, or a random modifier. Until the demo, assume you buy the city and then pick time of day at the map select screen.

Do not farm the old way

If a 2004 FAQ tells you to beat Hard Adventure with Megalon before you are “allowed” Ghidorah, close it. That FAQ is documenting a disc that could not sell you Ghidorah. The 2026 build can. Your grind is currency and mechanical skill, not an arbitrary family tree. Use Adventure to learn, use the shop to collect, use the planner to avoid double-buying.

When prices leak from the demo, we will add a table. Until then, the unlock rule is one sentence you can quote in Discord: any order, after you have the coins, no more chain.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I unlock Kiryu and Orga on every platform now?

The remaster advertises 12 kaiju for everyone, which includes the old Xbox extras. SKU-exclusive fighters were the 2002 problem this release is built to fix.

Do I have to finish Adventure to buy monsters?

No. Currency can be spent in any order. Adventure is still the best way to earn currency and to learn stages.

Are there secret codes for characters?

No retail cheat codes have been announced. Ignore Roblox-style code pages. This is a boxed Atari game.

What should I unlock after my first campaign?

A second melee style, then a flyer, then a mech. Details in the list above and on the unlock planner.
