Godzilla Melee Remastered UI Overhaul, Weather, and the Heisei Rename

What changed after gamescom: menus, weather on stages, and a 90s name that finally left the FAQ.

UI, Weather, and Heisei Rename

The gamescom 2026 trailer proved the twelve-kaiju roster and dated the Steam demo. Two days later the useful details arrived in community coverage of the overhauled menus. This page is that beat, dated late August 2026, so old GameCube FAQs stop gaslighting you.

Confirmed for Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, on top of the June press sheet:

  • The UI is completely overhauled, not a 480p pause screen stretched to 4K.
  • Stages can have weather conditions in addition to day and night.
  • You can select the game mode at character select, instead of burying Versus, Melee, Destruction, and Adventure in a 2002 tree.
  • “Godzilla 90’s” is labeled Heisei Godzilla in the remaster UI.

Those four sentences change getting started, controls, maps, and the starter kaiju page more than another trailer camera does.

Why the rename matters

Every English FAQ from 2003 says Godzilla 90’s. The remaster shop row will not. If you tell a friend to “pick 90s” on November 3 they will stare at Heisei Godzilla and think DLC. Heisei is the same slot: the heavier-ranged G-man versus the slightly faster Godzilla 2000. Wikizilla logged the rename against an August 27, 2026 post. This wiki already uses Heisei in titles. Keep 90’s in parentheses when you quote a dusty FAQ.

Mode select at character select

The original forced you through a mode menu, then a fighter, then a stage. Coverage now says you pick the mode on the character screen. That is a quality-of-life change that also changes party flow. You can hop from Destruction Mode to Versus without walking a tree. It also means the first pause screen will not look like GameCube. Do not panic when the round-count option lives somewhere new. Look for it. Versus rounds still run long if you leave the default.

Online multiplayer will inherit this screen if matchmaking wraps the same modes. If the demo on October 15 only exposes Versus and Destruction, this page will say so.

Weather on stages

Day and night were in the June sheet. Weather is extra. Rain is the obvious first modifier: reflections sell Unreal Engine 5 and hide cracked buildings. Fog would punish flyers and beam tracking. Snow has not been shown. Until the demo, assume you buy a map and then pick time of day; weather may be a toggle, a random roll, or both.

Play day weather-off when you are learning how to play. Play night rain when you already know Tokyo’s collision and you want the trailer look. Handheld Switch 2 should default to day. Nintendo’s eShop already lists HDR on compatible TVs; weather plus night plus handheld is how people miss a Gigan dash.

Atari’s June copy promised native modern haptics. DualSense beam charge and building collapse should rumble harder than a 2002 pack. That is not a reason to skip a pad on Steam. The overhauled UI is a reason to actually read tooltips on first launch. Skip them and you will spend ten minutes looking for Gallery.

Game Informer’s August 25, 2026 preview round-up (Issue 381) called the remaster an update with online play, overhauled visuals, extra single-player, and quality-of-life. Screen Rant ran a similar recap the same week. Neither replaced IGN’s June hands-on. They do confirm the industry still treats November 3 as locked. See the preview for feel, not for another recap of the press sheet.

What this does not change

Twelve kaiju. Eight locations. $29.99 digital. Currency in any order. Extra campaigns per monster. No confirmed cross-play. No preorder bonus as of the June retailer list. Those facts stay on preorder and the unlock planner.

If you only update one bookmark after gamescom, make it this page plus the kaiju roster. The roar is the same. The menu is not. The 90s name is gone. Call him Heisei or you will lose the first argument of launch night.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Godzilla 90's still in the game?

Yes. The remaster UI calls him Heisei Godzilla. Same starter slot. See Starter kaiju.

Is weather separate from day and night?

Yes, according to late-August UI coverage. Day/night was already announced. Weather is an extra modifier.

Where do I pick Adventure versus Destruction now?

At character select, per that coverage. The old 2002 mode tree is not the thing to memorize.

Did this change the roster?

No. Still twelve. The gamescom trailer is the visual proof.
